Reasons Why I'm Depressed

So in reality I have nothing to be depressed about: To my knowledge, my entire family is happy, healthy, and employed. I have 2 doggies, a great husband, a job lined up, about to move into a new house that I love.

BUT I feel depressed today depsite all of my good fortune. This means that by nature I am probably just ungrateful and spoiled OR that I have a chemical imbalance in my brain. But it's probably just the former, which sucks. Because I know right now if someone bought me a great present or told me that someone ELSE was gonna move all my crap into my new house & surprise me with great furniture and a professional puppy trainer- I'd be the happiest gal in the world. Hence, my conclusion that I'm a complainer by nature.

Reasons why I'm depressed:

1. I don't want to move my stuff. Ever.

2. I don't want to write my paper today. It's such a slow process and it involves so much thinking. How lazy is that?

3. I don't want to take the ethics portion of the bar exam next Saturday

4. I don't want to clean up puppy pee/poo today (but I want to send a shout out to Lou & Hannah who brighten my days)

5. I'm sad that we went out to eat last night so that we can spend tonight packing

6. I'm sad that in our new house, our fence is not completed so that we cannot immediately let the dogs run around.

7. I don't feel like showering (the sad truth)

I think we all came to the same conclusion: I'm not depressed, I'm LAZY.

Ok, now for happy stuff:

1. I have an awesome new house.

2. I have a really cute puppy chewing on my shoe laces

3. I have a really well behaved dog (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!????) named Lucy. My dear, Lou, how far we've come. At this point Lou & I are like an old married couple-- who had an arranged marraige. And the husband (Lou) kept stealing the wife's (me) thongs when she wasn't home and eating them. Ok, enough. It was more akin to an unplanned pregnancy. I was a teenager & Lou was my baby who I couldn't afford to feed. J knocked me up with Lucy.

4. I hate my car but its seriously the least expensive car there ever was & knock on wood- it always works.

This happy list taking is too much time and energy. Homework time!

Puppy Love

Lou was sleeping on the bed upstairs- a likely story.

Me? I was doing my make-up before class- also a likely story

Hannah, you ask? Hannah was pooping downstairs (messy ones), stepping in it, and leaving poop puppy prints on our white rug all the way up the stairs up to our bed... upon which she jumped, happy & oblivious.

Oh, and this was after she was punished for accosting my New Balance sneaker. So far she has not discovered the joys of my underwear. But I give it 2 days.

Wedding Weekend.

I have a few moments before the computer lab opens & I get to finish my paper on the Establishment Clause, so I figured I'd take a minute to reflect on how long this winter actually has been.

On the weekend of October 17, 2008--- over 4 months ago! -- J& I went to a wedding in Carmel, CA. It was FREEZING when we got on the plane, and WARM when we got off in CA. When we returned it was even worse.

I know that I've told at least one of you about the worst headache of my life, so real quick: We went for J's friend's wedding. It was a fun wedding- a buffet & definitely one of those situations where you didn't take enough food (or the plate wasn't big enough) or you didn't realize that you should've taken those weird looking potatoes at the beginning of the long buffet line because that was the only starch offered, etc... and you feel awkward going back for seconds because nobody else is and, besides, you're more in the mood for another glass of wine? Yeah, that was me.

Wine turned into Captain & Coke. But that was really it- there were no shots, I don't recall drinking a beer even . It was in this weird venue in the woods and supposedly there was "transportation back to the hotel every 15 minutes. " Yeah right. It was LATE (there was no end time on this wedding) and J & I decided to go. 20 minutes later we are walking through the woods looking for transportation, a street, headlights, ANYONE. We couldn't find this alleged transportation anywhere. So we re-traced our footsteps & figured we'd wait until we saw someone else leaving (we didn't want everyone to make a big to-do and beg us to stay). 2 hours later, we are still there.

I have no idea how we ultimately ended up in this limo back to our hotel but I know I got stuck next to some kid who talked my ear off while I watched J passed out in the seat in front of me. I wanted to sleep too. Unfortunately, we were on the "long" limo ride that was doing someone a favor and taking them to a location 20 minutes in the opposite direction of the hotel. The driver asked us if we would mind-- what was I gonna say? Yes, A LOT?

Anyway, we get home, I suppose, because I woke up in my dress on the bed to J saying, 'M, we gotta get going. We're gonna miss our flight.' I have not had that feeling of, 'ohmygod, I have to get up NOW???? I wanna die!' since 9th grade when I had to catch my bus at like 6AM. Or when I was in high school and used to work the breakfast shift at Friendly's and had to be there at 6AM and it was dark out and wintertime.

I sat up in bed and simultaneously felt like someone smashed my face in with a lead pipe. Never have I felt that much pain. I told J I literally couldn't get up & he packed our things so I could get more sleep (God bless him). He soon gave me the final wake up call reassuring me that all I had to do was put sweatpants on and climb into the car. I literally crawled to the bathroom to pee. Crawled onto the toilet. I sat on the toilet and began to pee and then it hit me: I was gonna puke. So mid-pee, I stop peeing and just turn around and start hurling. J came in and held my hair back. My underwear was still around my ankles. Ladies & Gentlemen, it was not a pretty sight.

Anyway, it ended up being the world's longest day of traveling. We got home to the freezing East Coast, much to my dismay. The next day I looked up real estate in Carmel, CA-- 1 house was for sale & it was 1million. Boo. Anyway, I think J deserves a husband award for his performance that weekend.

Close Call

Last night J& I went to a BYO with our friends K&M (K is J's childhood friend & they live nearby, so we hang out with them fairly often).

At the restaurant, the server poured white wine for J& myself. When it came to K&M, only K wanted wine.

My first move to was offer our white-- thinking M preferred white. When she declined (waitress STILL standing there), I blurt out, 'Why not? Are you pregnant!?'

Yes, she is pregnant. But not out of the 1st trimester so they are keeping it on the DL (since it's high risk until that point). It turns out they were going to tell us anyway & we had a hilarious convo about baby names, but sometimes I wish I would just think for 2 seconds before opening my mouth.

Puppy Update: (Despite my temptation for this to become a puppy-blog, I'm not letting it happen). We've been crating her at night. She's generally a very good puppy. Last night she woke up crying at 4:00. I was convinced she was dying, so I went down to check on her. I ate an orange while she chewed on a bone. Then I put her back. After a few more tears, she slept til 8:00AM.)

Hannah

NEW PUP!

Just got a call from Jane. She said the little old lady is taking a male, which means I'm picking up Hannah today around 3:00. I'm not telling J. I'm going to surprise him. He's working late tonight so it's going to be super hard to keep it a secret.

I also keep looking at my LouBear and feeling super guilty. She has no idea how much her life is going to change. I'm sure this sounds dumb to all non-dog owners/lovers, but Louie is &has been our only child & center of everything. I anticipate that she will be devastated. My poor baby.

Ok, I suspect this blog is quickly turning into Lame-ville, but I had to update. I will post pictures of Hannah asap.

Yay!

Puppy

Today I have an appointment with someone named "Jane" to look at Golden Retriever puppies at 2:30. I want a more golden/red color & J wants a female. There is 1 that matches this description. Jane informed me that an old lady wants to purchase a female & called right before me... so she gets first dibs. I'm hoping that she prefers the whiter color & decides that she's indifferent about its gender. The odds are stacked against me, but the price is right.

If it's a girl we're naming her Hannah. If it's a boy, I want his name to be Red. J finds "Red" trite.

Anyway, if it doesn't work out I won't be too sad bc I have a ton of schoolwork to do. Something tells me that I would find training our new pup to be a bit more interesting than legal ethics.
I also try to remember the high energy levels of my dear Lou when she was a pup.. It's hard to believe that it's the same dog, considering she is now officially the most lazy dog in the world.

Oh, I know I've told some of you this-- but the other morning I was putting on my coat to take her out & heard her lapping up liquid in the living room. I glance over & she's finishing off J's wine from the previous night! So she's lazy AND she's a drunk. Just like her mama.
